Bassi Sponsors Legislation to Honor Local Senior Center
Springfield, IL (April 3, 2006) -- State Representative Suzie Bassi (R-Palatine) is sponsoring legislation to honor the Palatine Township Senior Center for becoming the first nationally accredited senior center in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
“The Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council operates the senior center which provides programs in education, fitness, recreation, and many other services,” said Bassi. These programs have enhanced the lives of many local seniors and have helped them to live full and independent lives.”
Bassi said very few senior centers have received national accreditation. “The Palatine Township Senior Center is one of only three centers in Illinois who has received this recognition and there are only 126 accredited senior centers in the nation.”
“Seniors are an important part of our community,” said Bassi. “They provide wisdom and lifelong experience which all ages can learn from. The Palatine Township Senior Center should be commended for their efforts to provide programs which foster these qualities in our local seniors and work to enrich their lives.”
