REP. BASSI:
APPLICATIONS FOR DISCOUNT DRUG CLUB AVAILABLE
PALATINE (December 5, 2003) – Applications are now available for
the new state prescription discount Buying Club that allows all Illinois seniors
to get relief from skyrocketing prescription drug costs. State Representative
Suzanne “Suzie” Bassi (R-Palatine), who supported the legislation this spring,
said that beginning January 1st, the new program will provide relief
from the rising costs of prescription drugs to all Illinois seniors, regardless
of income.
“Costs of prescription drugs are soaring while many of our
senior citizens are living on a fixed income and this is a huge problem for
many,” Bassi stressed. “The new discount drug club program offers seniors of all
income levels opportunities to save money on their prescription drugs.”
All Illinois seniors may participate in the new
prescription discount Buying Club for a $25 annual enrollment fee. Participating
pharmacies will provide on the spot discounts on seniors’ prescriptions based
upon the price negotiated with the manufacturer. Participants may also receive
discounts on medications they order by mail. Bassi added that low and moderate
income seniors currently enrolled in the state’s Circuit Breaker Program
automatically qualify for the new drug discount Buying Club, and will have their
annual enrollment fee waived.
Representative Bassi said that seniors may apply by:
“It’s a great program and I encourage anyone interested to
